Thompson Lake Saturday Sept 22, 2012

I was a bit concerned that the rain would prevent our walk today, but all we experienced was a light shower and plenty of wind.

Our walk today was 6km around lake Thompson, now part of a regional park. It was only a short distance from, just south of Cockburn Central and off the freeway.

The are is well fenced in an effort to keep foxes out, although we believe we saw one running into the scrub, there is an active baiting programme according to the signs.

The track was very easy walking around the lack except for a small section in which we had to find our own way through the wet under foot scrub as the track was under water.

At one stage Peter fell over as we went through the scrub, it was pleasing to note that he didn't seem to suffer any injuries from his tumble, the softness of the ground cushioned the impact.

After Peter recovered we finished our walk around the lake and eventually rejoined a track that was not under water. We also came across a chap who visited the park each day for a walk. He indicated that the park contained 17 varieties of orchids, but he had only found 4. We spotted a hawk and eagle flying around as we neared the end of our journey.

For breakfast this morning we ended up at Miss Maud's in the Cockburn Central shopping centre. Before returning to Peter's place we went to the Canningvale Markets and obtained some fish.
